The full name of the country is the Kyrgyz Republic. The country has a parliamentary system of governing. The name of the president is Almazbek Atambaev. The country received its independence on August 31, 1991 splitting from the USSR. It is located in North- Eastern part of Central Asia. It borders on the countries like Kazakhstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. The area occupies 195 sq km and 93 % of it is above 1500 meters. The highest point makes 7439 m (Peak Pobeda) while the lowest is 401 m in Fergana valley. The capital is the city of Bishkek with the population of over 5 million people. The main cities in Kyrgyzstan are Bishkek, Cholpon Ata, Karakol, Osh, Naryn, Jalal Abad and Talas. The languages are Kyrgyz and Russian. The main ethnicities living in our country are Kyrgyz (59.7%), Russian (16.2%), Uzbek (14.1%), Ukrainian (1.7%), Tatars (1.2%), other nationalities (7.1%): German, Kazakh, Korean, Uigur, Tajik, Dungan.
